North York Academy’s U18 Boys High Performance team recently returned from Bradenton, Florida, where they placed 1st in the U18 Silver division at the IMG Academy College Showcase. The event offers players the opportunity to showcase their talent to top college coaches from some of the top soccer programs in the U.S.

NYA played against three other high-level academy teams over the course of the three-day event. North York finished the showcase in first place with two wins and one draw, claiming seven points from their opponents.
“These trips are a fantastic opportunity for our squad to gain valuable playing experience and the chance to be seen by coaches from all over the U.S.,” said Coach Bryan Cerqueira.
A big 11-0 win against ANBFC Boynton United FC U18 kicked off the weekend. On Saturday, in their second game of the weekend, NYA kept their momentum rolling as they beat Fusion Soccer Club Boys 04 Select 1 4-0.

The final match of the showcase had North York facing off against the other undefeated team in the division, Barca Academy Columbus Blue 04B. The game went down to the wire and the points were ultimately shared, with a final score of 2-2.

The trip was full of positive outcomes, both on and off the field. World class
facilities, warm weather and great performances in front of top recruiters made for a very successful excursion down to Florida.
“I only have good things to say about the whole experience. The boys played well and gave a good account of themselves off the field too,” said Cerqueira. “The facilities and level of play also gave the team a taste of what it would be like to play in a program in the States. It was a very positive experience all the way around.”
