North York Academy appoints new Director of Coaching from Sporting CP, Portugal
We are delighted to announce that Fábio Roque, formerly of Sporting Clube de Portugal, has been appointed North York Academy’s new Director of Coaching.
After much anticipation and suspense, the big news is finally here! Fábio Roque has joined the NYA technical team and will now be taking over the role of DOC at the academy. He joins us after his most recent role as coach of the U-15 team of Sporting Clube de Portugal from Lisbon.
Fabio has had a distinguished career within the footballing ecosystem of Portugal. He obtained his UEFA B Football Coach license in 2021 and has been a part of the Sporting CP coaching staff for over 10 years, joining as the U-7 and U-8 talent observation scout in 2012. Sporting CP is one of the most decorated global football clubs with a reputation for developing some of the best players in world football, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Luis Figo, and Luis Nani.
"I am looking forward to working with the NYA coaches and players to continue to develop as leaders both on and off the pitch in the Canadian Soccer industry" said Fabio, ahead of his tenure at NYA.
NYA head coach Bryan Cerqueira was full of praise for the new director. “This is the next step for North York Academy, and we’re really excited for the future. Fabio brings a lot of new ideas to the table and we can't wait to get started”
Fabio has a clear vision of building North York Academy for the future and wishes to build championship-caliber teams across all age groups. He also has plans to initiate new player development systems to work with players individually as part of our PDP program.
After making his move across the Atlantic Ocean last week, Fabio will begin his newly assumed duties at NYA this week. We wish him the best of luck!
